Nadia Elena Comaneci
The year was 1976 and she became an international star when she scored the only ever perfect 10 on the bar that was asymmetric at the Montreal Olympic Games. Plus, Nadia Comaneci was able to score six more perfect tens in order to become one of the youngest Olympic Gold medalist. The Romanian gymnast did not only attract attention from everywhere and help Romania get its place in the world map. Through achieving a feat that was not possible, this sporting icon brought gymnastics into the spotlight of global interest. This changed the perception of female gymnasts. The impact she had on the Olympics was so significant that two of her routines such as the toe-on movement and release, are named after her. Both are rated as being high-level difficult. Apart from the Olympics, she showed remarkable performance at her participation in the World Championships and European Championships and was subsequently an icon and one of the top-known gymnasts that the world can ever be privileged to. Following her move to the US the 'Queen of Olympics was a model and sports equipment promotion.
